UEW Vice-Chancellor Promises Equal Opportunities for Staff

UEW Vice-Chancellor Promises Equal Opportunities for Staff

In a recent familiarisation tour of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, has made a compelling promise to offer equal opportunities to all deserving staff members, emphasising a commitment to eliminating discrimination in his administration.

During the tour, which began on Monday 9th and concluded on Thursday, 26th October, 2023, to interact with diverse outfits and interest groups within the university, Prof. Mitchual expressed his delight in seeing individuals achieve the pinnacle of their profession.

"I have mentored people, and I take joy in doing that. I want to see people succeed. I want to see people succeed in reaching the peak of their profession, and my administration will not discriminate. Everybody has an equal opportunity; I demand hard work to justify whatever position or opportunity you will be given," he affirmed.

The Vice-Chancellor further elaborated his vision for the university, highlighting his determination to work with his management team to establish the groundwork required to internationalise UEW. He stressed the importance of regularly evaluating student teachers to ensure they effectively apply the knowledge and skills they acquired at UEW in their respective schools.

"In the 21st century, we are looking for graduates who are critical thinkers, problem solvers, team players and have the right communication skills. If our graduates fall short of these 21st-century skills, something needs to be done. We will rely on you so much to help us put UEW in the limelight so far as educational issues are concerned in the country," Prof. Mitchual added.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the need to prioritise staff development, high standards for instruction and research, mentoring young lecturers, and fostering staff cohesion.

"I will do my bit as a Vice-Chancellor and ensure you do yours. Nobody belongs to me; I don't even have a camp. If I have a camp, then my camp is to do unto others as you like others to do unto you, and if I have a camp, my camp is that anything good is good and anything bad is bad. We are going to uphold meritocracy. Play your role according to your responsibilities. Let's unite ourselves, and the future will be bright for us all," he asserted.

Prof. Mitchual concluded by expressing his expectations of having a fruitful working relationship with the workforce in the years ahead. "I want to plead with you that I will do my best as a Vice-Chancellor, and if at any point in time, I go wrong, please know that I am not bigger than any of you; draw my attention to it."

Among the management members who accompanied the Vice-Chancellor on his familiarisation tour were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Antwi; the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah; the Finance Officer, Dr. Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie; the Principal, College of Languages Education, Prof. Dominic K. Danso Mensah; and the Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), UEW, Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku.

Prof. Mitchual's commitment to equal opportunities and meritocracy at UEW sets an encouraging tone for the university's future, as it strives for excellence in education and professional growth for all staff members.
